I'm always amazed at how people just let the media dictate their lives. I have so many clients that just regurgitate what they hear on the morning news whenever I see them. It's like nothing else goes on in their lives and they need to have their strings pulled like a puppet to give their lives some meaning. This forum is often no different. Clearly the flavor of the day is racism. And yet, how many times have we seen this before just a few months before an election. 2nd verse, same as the first. And yet, people seem to get baited in by every story on race imaginable because the media says so. I think it would be interesting how quickly the story changed if people just stopped paying attention to it. It's no different than feeding the trolls on the internet. Stop paying so much attention to these things and they tend to go away. It is ultimately about ratings and selling ad time. Same thing goes for some of the useful idiots on this site (all they ever do is try to yank people's chains). Scroll right by folks. They're like the petulant child trying to get attention by having their temper tantrum.
The sooner one accepts the fact that 1/2 the population is ignorant the closer one
comes to harmony in ones life. Since I got out of the rat race 14 years ago my life
has improved dramatically. I no longer have to deal with the assholes of the world.
I answer to no one and it's fucking great. No more rules to follow, deadlines to meet.
The only person I have to communicate with on a regular basis is my wife.
Now I'll admit that in itself is no day at the beach but after 53 years there's not
much to talk about. Also she's a flaming liberal so it makes it easy to just ignore her.
It has come to the point where I don't believe anything I read or hear from the media.
There's no longer any news being reported just opinions and you know what is said about
opinions, they're like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink.
I honestly don't know how we got to this point as a society but I do know it's not productive.

In many cases I find the people controlled by this narrative are actually quite intelligent which makes it all that much more perplexing. Those that lean one way or the other tend to recognize the bullshit on the side they oppose, but then swallow it on the side they support.

40 years ago I wrote a college essay on how the media controls our focus.
It was apolitical, hell I might still have been a democrat at the time, but I talked about how they control the national discourse.
An outstanding piece I might say, it was even borrowed by a future pilot and a future doctor.
I'm not sure I really understood how right I was at the time, I know I never imagined how bad it would become. It was easy to write and support, the low hanging fruit one might say.

The left has rioted....protested and used civil disobedience to gain the country for 50 years....especially the last 30. I hear conservatives say go play golf. The country is and has been on fire for a while....don't worry....play some golf...it will all sort itself out somehow.....bwahahhaa......ughhh....The apathy on the right is concerning....Lucky the young people have given the right some energy and hope. Similar to Dave's wife, my wife also leans Liberal and buys most of the crap the media is selling. She said to my daughter yesterday that "your father feels most of this stuff is orchestrated and tends to rear its ugly head consistently as elections get closer". My daughter says "well yeah Mom". Fortunately my daughter gets it. If this Floyd thing didn't drop into the lap of the Dems, they could have easily found something else (and they would have). With over 327 million in this country, you're bound to find something.

As a young kid in college in the early 70s, I minored in Journalism....my teachers always hammered into me that when writing articles it is imperative that you follow the rule of thumb which was Who, What, Were, When, and Why....called them the five Ws.....stay away from opinions and report the facts....nothing else matters....

She still watches "The View" despite both me and my daughter telling her to turn that shit off. Her emotions run many of her decisions. And it's a waste of time to try to have a rational conversation on many of these topics. She tends to get painted into a corner and then just gets quiet and doesn't respond. Eventually you realize it's a waste of time, plus I like having a home cooked meal.
